  • The Mission of the MNWT Foundation is to support the programs of the Minnesota Women of Today by developing financial and non-financial resources, and to provide appropriate oversight and distribution of funds raised. The MNWT Foundation is not a committee of the Minnesota Women of Today but a separate 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. It was established in 1983 to support the projects and programs of the MNWT. The purpose of the foundation is to raise and distribute funds to help further the educational, training and fundraising projects of the organization. The Foundation is working for your chapter and its members -- support it by making a donation today. All donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible.

    Scholarships - Chair: Nancy Dvoracek

The Foundation would like to encourage the use of the following scholarships available to Minnesota Women of Today chapters and members:

    Cheryl L Anderson Memorial Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is given at the Fall State meeting to deserving members of the Women of Today organization. Recipients must be a member of at least two years, be seeking higher education and need financial assistance. Applications are due postmarked July 1, and awarded at Fall State. This program is funded primarily through the Fall State Silent Art Auction. If you have art that you would like to donate, please contact the scholarship chair.

    Outstanding Young Adult Scholarship

This program provides scholarships for the Outstanding Young Adults honored at the Winter State meeting for their volunteer contributions to their communities. Outstanding Young Adult is awarded at Winter State Convention with the applications due in the fall.

    Straight River Scholarship

This $400 scholarship is given to assist a person to enter or continue in an educational program. Her/His goals should be to improve or enhance their skills with physically or mentally handicapped individuals. Applications are accepted at any time, and awarded at state conventions.

    Other Sub-Committees

While the Foundation is working for your chapter, you and your chapter can also be working for the Foundation. Several opportunities await your time and tax-deductible donations. Contact the committee chair for information on any of these opportunities

    Bequest for Tomorrow

This new subcommittee encourages you to remember the Minnesota Women of Today Foundation in your will. The process is as easy as the terminology that you put in writing. And you will be leaving a legacy to an organization that has given you so much.

What is a bequest? Anything you give or leave a charitable/non-profit organization from your estate through your will.

How do I make a bequest to the Minnesota Women of Today? Name the MNWT in your will by designating a specific amount, a percentage, or the remainder of your estate.

How should I phrase it? Following is simple language that you can share with your attorney to make sure your wishes are well known. "I hereby give and devise to the Minnesota Women of Today Foundation, a Minnesota non-profit organization, the sum of $ __________, or ______% of the residue of my estate, for its general, unrestricted purposes." Please consult your attorney for professional assistance.

    Endowment Fund

The Endowment Committee oversees the management of the various endowment funds of the MNWT foundation, and the solicitation and recognition of sustaining members. Contact the chair to gain information regarding the current endowment fund drive, the Diamond Club.

    Chapter Grants Program

This program was designed to give a chapter the funds needed to do that special project they would be unable to run without financial aid. Grant applicants must donate $25 to the Foundation to be eligible to apply for a grant. Grants applications are due postmarked December 1st and are presented at the Winter State meeting.

    Corporate Grants

Does your employer offer grants to employees who volunteer regularly? Several do, and you are encouraged to find out whether your employer does so. Even if there is no established giving program at your company, it is possible that a tax-deductible donation will be given when you explain the philosophy and workings of the organization. These grants can be delegated as you (the recipient) wish.

Many large employers have their own foundations, and are looking for worthy causes to donate money to. If you are aware of such an opportunity within your place of employment, assisting us with an application is an invaluable way to support the MNWT Foundation.

    Tax-Deductible Personal Donations

Your personal donation is always welcome, regardless of the amount. These funds can be earmarked for a WT area that holds a special spot for you, such as training, technology, MNJOTS, chapter grants and much more.

    Foundation Fundraiser

Thanks to all who joined the Foundation at our 2011 fund raiser that took us to the Old Log Theater in Excelsior, MN where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and saw the play “The Dixie Swim Club”. It was a wonderful afternoon catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Watch this space for an announcement of the third annual fund raiser being planned for 2012. Ideas are being discussed and it’s sure to be another fun event.

    Sustaining Membership

Becoming a sustaining member of the Foundation is a great way to support the Foundation with a small annual financial commitment. By donating $25 each year fiscal year (June 1 – May 31) you support the programs of the Foundation and in turn the MNWT. Your tax deductible check can be mailed to Bonnie Waller at MNWT Foundation, PO Box 232, Anoka, MN 55303 or you can donate via credit card by visiting the givemn.org link at the bottom of this page.

    Foundation Board Members Needed

The Foundation is looking looking for individuals interested in serving on the MNWT Foundation Board. This is a two year commitment of 5 meetings a year which have been typically held in Anoka. No prior board experience is required. All we ask is that you have an interest in supporting the MNWT through the programs of the Foundation. We are a fun bunch of women who have a strong interest in the long term viability of the MNWT organization. Please contact Christine Harkess, Board chair for more information. We'd love to have you as a Foundation Board member!
