Living & Learning
This programming area not available prior to 2009-2010 was developed to encourage a member's personal growth -- mentally, spiritually, civically and through family. Living and Learning encourages a member’s personal growth – intellectually, spiritually, civically and through family & friends. Highlights include:
- Promote the Living and Learning certification
- Promote Personal Enrichment Program courses
- Promote the Women Who Impact Award
- Encourage use of USWT certifications, consider developing one universal certification form
- Keep competitions (one per year): Speaking, Writing and Impromptu
- Organize fellowship services, invocations and benediction at convention

Tips for good essay writing:
- Keep sentences short.
- Avoid unnecessary words.
- Write as you talk.
- Use terms your reader can visualize.
- Write to express, not impress.
- Proof read, always PROOFREAD!
Goal: 25 Certifications in USWT Effective Speaking
DELIVERING AN EFFECTIVE SPEECH
- Be Confident.
- Speak clearly and precisely.
- Look at your audience.
- Say only what you meant to say.
- When you are finished, STOP!
- Be enthusiastic and sincere with your speaking manner.
- Don’t say, “Thank you.” At your conclusion. It’s not necessary.
- Use simple, short sentences.
- Communicate through body movements and gestures.
- RELAX.
- Use 3x5 index cards for notes and references only.
