traditional and holistic medical practices, as well as balanced lifesytles.
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share a link with you. Some of you may watch the Dr. Oz show, but I have become a little addicted to it lately. He has done a lot of shows on women's health and I thought you may be interested in checking out some of his show video's and website. I am a very visual learner so it's fun to actually watch someone talk about these subjects. It's a great site to look around on for information. http://www.doctoroz.com/videos
ENJOY! Dawn :)
| This
year we will be focusing on the following foundations: |
 |
We are promoting the Cancurables Foundation this year. Cancurables raises money for Ovarian and other types of cancer which currently lack standard screening tests to promote early detection. You can find out more about them at www.cancurables.org. See my CIP for more ways that your chapters can help support Cancurables.
Why pick Ovarian cancer to promote?
Ovarian cancer is known as the “silent killer” of women due to its vague symptoms It’s is Cancurables hope that until an early detection method is found that they can spread the word as much as possible for that women start to “listen” what their bodies are trying to tell them.
Some Ovarian Cancer symptoms include:
- Bloating, gas, pressure
- Nausea or diarrhea
- Constipation, frequent urination
- Loss of appetite or feel full after a light meal
- Weight gain or loss
- Fatigue, backaches
- Menstrual changes, pain during intercourse
Chapters can promote and encourage the “Silent No More” Walk/Run for Ovarian Cancer. Walk/run takes place Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Edina. This walk/run benefits the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance. Find more information about this event at http://www.mnovarian.org/silent_no_more_walkrun.htm
1st Trimester emphasis: Stress & your Health
Working on your attitude is also important. One of the single most important points you can make about stress is that in most cases it’s not what’s out there is the problem it is how you react to it. THINK POSITIVE!
Take several deep breaths. Act calm and be calm. When you experience stress, your pulse races and you start to breathe very quickly. Forcing yourself to breathe slowly helps to convince the body that the stress is gone, ether it is or isn’t. What is the correct way to breathe? Abdominally feeling the stomach expand as you inhale collapse as you exhale.
Don’t get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that you forget to take care of your own needs. Nurturing yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.
- Set aside relaxation time. Include rest and relaxation in your daily schedule. Don’t allow other obligations to encroach. This is your time to take a break from all responsibilities and recharge your batteries.
- Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who enhance your life. A strong support system will buffer you from the negative effects of stress.
- Do something you enjoy every day. Make time for leisure activities that bring you joy, whether it be stargazing, playing the piano, or working on your bike.
- Keep your sense of humor. This includes the ability to laugh at yourself. The act of laughing helps your body fight stress in a number of ways.
Healthy ways to relax and recharge
- Go for a walk.
- Spend time in nature.
- Call a good friend.
- Sweat out tension with a good workout.
- Write in your journal.
- Take a long bath.
- Light scented candles.
- Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea.
- Play with a pet.
- Work in your garden.
- Get a massage.
- Curl up with a good book.
- Listen to music.
- Watch a comedy
