Activation

Activation of members means getting them involved. Whether it is activation of new members or reactivating seasoned members, it is vital for your chapter to have involved members. This is part of what makes your chapter healthy. With enthusiastic, activated members, your chapter will be able to run a variety of projects, create lasting friendships and increase retention. Having active members in your chapter sets a good example for new members to join and become active themselves. New members join because they want to be active, so be sure to give them the resources they need to succeed.

Tools

For templates on the following tools, click on the key word:

  • Spotlight Member - Having members fill out an information sheet is a great way to get to know each other. Information can be shared in your chapter newsletter.

  • STEP I, II & III - STEP stands for Success Through Enthusiastic Participation and is a programming area designed to get and keep members active by completing requirements of the program. It gives members positive feedback about their involvement.

  • Big Sis/Little Sis - This program helps the new member build a friendship with an experienced member and gives her a contact for learning more about the organization.

  • Secret Pals - This is an optional, "just for fun," program that gives members an opportunity to acknowledge a fellow member in a special way. You will need a chairperson to match up Secret Pals and distribute the gifts at your meetings. Participants should know this does not need to cost a lot of money; it is the thought that counts. Encourage creativity and consistency in the program so no feels left out.

  • Participation Sheet - This is a record keeping tool to document member's activities. Use this form to encourage activity in your members and as a fun way to promote participation.

Other ways to involve members:

  • Personal Contact - sending personal notes, making phone calls and greeting members at meetings.

  • Co-Chairing a Project - ask new members to help you chair a project. You can learn from each other and develop friendships.

  • Working on Projects - a personal invitation to help work on a project makes members feel special and gives them a sense of belonging.

  • Personally invite someone to hold LPM or Board positions.
