Retention
Retention is a
VITAL part of the four elements of membership. All your efforts in recruitment,
orientation and activation lead up to retention. Your chapter needs to retain
members who can share their experience and help your chapter thrive. Here are
some ideas for aiding in retention: - Identify
which members need extra attention. Use the Quickcheck
Worksheet to identify the member due next trimester. Consider their level of
involvement - have they been to meetings regularly, working on projects or chapter
events or showing involvement in other ways? If not, they need extra attention.
-
Get the member involved in your chapter's activities. Call her and invite her
to the next event. Think about which of your projects interest her, tell her about
them and invite her to attend.
-
Ask every member to renew. Do not ever assume a member is not going to renew and
fail to contact her. Let her make the decision. A personal invitation to renew
is an absolute must.
-
Let members know that all activity levels are welcome. She can come to socials
or just work on one project if that is right for her. Remember to respect each
individual's choice for her level of involvement. Don't make members feel guilty
for not participating more.
-
List the names of those up for renewal in your chapter newsletter. This will be
reminder to them to get their checks in.
-
Plan a special retention project such as a Kidnap Breakfast (refer to Skits and
Stuff Manual) or a Member Appreciation Event to involve inactive members as well
as provide a fun event for the whole chapter.
